Ready for the “New Year”?

Ready?

As the Winter Break is coming to a close I can’t help but think, “Am I ready?,” and then I immediately think heck yes I am! Am I ready for the lesson plans, progress monitoring and the STAAR test? Not quite! I mean come on I have to be honest with myself, right?

I can say that I am ready though. Ready to see my sweet kiddos. I might not be 100% ready to get back to the routine of 5AM after some many relaxing days with my family. I do know for certain though, that I do have some very excited class kiddos ready to see me. While they might have been just as ready for the Winter Break as I was, I know that they may have only wanted a few days away from the routine, definitely not two weeks. It is often difficult to think that some students home life is not like our own. We get caught up in the out of sight, out of mind sometimes and forget that while we may be relaxing on a Netflix and chill binge there is a student who just cannot wait to get back to us.

As I know most of you feel the same way I do and could definitely use a few more days, we know the reality. It is time to go back to school with a fresh, rejuvenated perspective. We can be the light that kids gravitate towards or the light that sends them running. I choose to be the light they gravitate towards. Now don’t get me wrong, I know there will be days when my limits are tested but, don’t we owe it to the kids to be the best version of ourselves for them? I might not want to do all the lesson planning and paperwork because, lets face it, it is overwhelming sometimes. But, what I do know is that I wouldn’t ever want a student to think that I do not care about their future. They are our future! I look forward to the teachable moments because when I look back I will know that I did my best to help my students become the best versions of themselves.

So, ready or not.. Let’s do this! We are more than ready to get back to work after a nice Winter Break. Let’s start this new decade off right!
